Trooper helps deliver baby on Interstate 4 in Hillsborough County

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY - A Florida state trooper investigating a crash on Interstate 4 between Highway 301 and Hillsborough Avenue had his attention diverted in a very different way early Tuesday afternoon.

While investigating the crash on Eastbound I-4 around 12:20 p.m., the driver of a Chrysler Pacifica traveling westbound pulled into the center median and summoned Trooper Dennis Rich for his help, according to a FHP statement.

Wiclef Desamour, 35, and his wife Latoya Desamour, 34, both of Tampa, were trying to make it from Brandon to St. Joseph's Hospital for the delivery of their new baby.

When they realized they weren't going to make it there in time, Desamour pulled over called to Trooper Rich.

He immediately responded.  Moments later, he helped deliver a healthy baby girl. A short time later Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived and took mother and infant to the hospital.

The baby girl is now named Arabella and joins a 7-year-old sister, a 5-year-old brother and an 18-month-old sister.
