TAMPA - FCAT testing at three Tampa schools was put on hold Monday morning when the campuses lost power, apparently due to a squirrel coming into contact with high-voltage wires.
The power went out around 8:30 a.m. at Jefferson High, Lavoy Exceptional Center and Roland Park Magnet School in the Westshore area. Some 700 homes were affected as well.
One witness reported hearing a large explosion just prior to the outage.
Power to Jefferson High and Lavoy was out for about an hour. Roland was fully restored shortly before noon.
School district spokesman Steve Hagerty said testing resumed after power was restored. He said all students were fine.
