Thousands of Bay Area needy to be fed by Metropolitan Ministries this Thanksgiving

Metro Ministries expects 5,100+ people at holiday

TAMPA BAY - It's the time to give thanks and more than 5,100 people were thankful this Thanksgiving.  Largely in part because of Metropolitan Ministries.

The organization and its many volunteers were mixing, cooking and baking before the sun even came up on Thanksgiving morning.  Preparing 5,109 meals, 2,555 pounds of turkey, 1,277 pounds of potatoes and 639 pies all for the needy in the Bay Area.  All of which were brought to 400 West Palm Avenue in Tampa to the Holiday Tent set up there.

David Bledsoe, with the ministries says the generosity of the Tampa Bay community is what has helped them put on a meal of this magnitude.

"It only cost us $1.73 to feed a hungry person in the Tampa Bay area," says Bledsoe.  "And that is how we are able to maximize all of the contributions and donations that we receive in the Tampa area. "

In addition to donations, Metro Ministries has an outpouring of volunteer support as well.

"We have almost 10,000 volunteers that come just in November and December to help us here in the kitchen or in the holiday tent serving our families."

So many volunteers were willing to lend a helping hand on Thanksgiving that the Ministries had a few hands too many!  At terms, turning some help away because they simply had everything covered.

But the job is never finished and the holiday tent still has a whole month to go.  That said, Bledsoe encourages anyone who wants to help out during the holiday season to visit their website at www.metromin.org.
