TAMPA, Fla. -- A local woman climbed into a storm drain to rescue a small kitten that was stuck early Wednesday morning.

Early this morning Maria, who did not wish to provide her last name, was walking home on 22nd Street near Adamo Drive in Tampa when she heard meows coming from a storm drain.

She went home to drop off her stuff, grabbed some twine, and went back to try to get the kitten out.

Another bystander, Eric Moreno, also stopped to help, but their attempts were unsuccessful.

About 30 minutes later, a couple of Tampa Police officers who were writing reports saw the activity and came over to see that they were doing.

The officers helped lift the storm drain cover up and Maria went in and grabbed the kitten. She plans on taking it home and is not sure what she’s going to call it yet.

“Next move is he’s moving into my place and I’m keeping him and I’m going to spoil him. I don’t know if it’s a girl of boy...”
