Authorities with Hillsborough County say a man drove his SUV into the Seffner Food Mart and stole cigarettes early Thursday morning, and later crashed into a house while officials pursued.
After a power outage the night before, deputies say, a clerk from the store at 340 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. was in his vehicle in the parking lot around 9:30 p.m., awaiting for electicity to be restored.
While outside, a white male approached him and robbed him of his personal property to include his wallet and the store keys. The suspect then fled, and used the clerk's credit card to make three separate purchases.
Deputies say Christopher Stringfield, 27, is the same suspect who crashed into the store in the early-morning hours.
He was later spottied near Kingsway and Highway 92, and after a short pursuit, the vehicle went through a fence, struck a palm tree, an oak tree and came to rest striking the corner of a house at 1212 Varnes Alley in Seffner.
Stringfield bailed from the vehicle and fled on foot but was located a short distance away by K-9.
Stringfield is accused of armed robbery of the clerk and fleeing and eluding police.
