Sheena Morris' death ruled undetermined; family believes it is a murder

Mother searching for answers in daughter's death

TAMPA - Kelly Osborn is on a mission days before what would have been her daughter's, Sheena Morris, 26th birthday.

"I really  can not believe that this is what I am doing. This is where I am standing for my daughter. This does not seem right," Osborn said.

Two and a half years ago officers with the Bradenton Beach police department found Sheena's body on New Year's in a hotel. They said she committed suicide. Later the ruling was changed to undetermined. Her mother does not believe her daughter would do such a thing.

"I want the state of Florida to pay attention and know that we are not going to go away. I need them to look at my investigation," she said.

Osborn has been working to get the case reopened. She hopes to have 10,000 signatures by Sheena's birthday on a petition asking the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to bring in the FBI to re-investigate her daughter's death.

"She was full of life and loved to life. Unfortunately, her shining light was dampened and taken away," said Cheryl Telese.

Telese did not know Sheena directly, but said she wanted to give her support to Sheena's family.

For nearly three years Sheena's family and friends have been questioning her death.

"It is exhausting and it is nerve wrecking. You don't even have an opportunity to grieve," said her friend Rena Carideo.

Bradenton Police Chief Sam Speciale told ABC Action News the Manatee County Sheriff's Office and FDLE did look into the case and they did not find anything to change the original finding. He added he would reopen the case if more evidence surfaced.

Sheena's mother wants more done.

"How do you get all of these other people to believe I am in denial. They would not be standing here today with me if I was a mother in denial," said Osborn.

She hopes to get to the bottom of what happened to her daughter one signature at a time.

"I want to think of Sheena and relish every moment and memory," she said.

Editor's note: We previously reported the Sheena Morris committed suicide. That ruling was later changed to undetermined and this story has been updated to reflect that.
