Rain, floods wreak havoc on Tampa Bay area

TAMPA - Flooded cars caused big traffic backups Friday morning and USF warned students to stay inside.

And it looks like there is more heavy rain ahead for parts of the Tampa Bay area.

Flooded vehicles bring traffic to standstill:

During the morning hours, law enforcement agencies alerted media interests to numerous instances of stalled vehicles or flooding at intersections across the area, including:

Howard between Cleveland and Kennedy; Cleveland West of Rome; Bayshore Blvd., 30th St and Bougainvillea Ave., Busch Blvd btwn 17th St and 50th St, Hillsborough and Central, 143rd and 12th, Hanna and 53rd, 52nd St and Fletcher, Fowler and 56th, Sligh and 50th, 56th St at Fowler Ave., 56th St. at Busch Boulevard, Nebraska at Hanna, Bougainvillea at 30th, Florida at Linebaugh, 22nd at 109th.

These same intersections are candidates for additional flooding when the rain returns.

For a while, it appeared commencement at USF could be delayed, but that turned out not to be the case.

Power Outages:

TECO reported 949 customers without power as of 4:15 p.m.
Duke Energy reported sporadic outages in St. Petersburg.

A look ahead:

ABC Action News Chief Meteorologist Denis Phillips says we likely are in for another round of heavy rain.  While the rain may not be as heavy as on Friday morning, the ground is saturated, which could mean more flooding.
