During a 90-minute White House dinner attended by ABC Action News anchor Paul LaGrone, President Trump talked specifically about old military aircraft.

The president said there are planes in active service right now that have been flown by three generations of pilots. Some of those planes still fly out of MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, he added.

At MacDill Air Force Base, pilots fly the the KC-135 Stratotanker, a refueling aircraft that has been in service for 50 years.

President Trump promised an upgrade when he visited MacDill in February.

"We're going to deliver new planes," Trump said.

The president hit on the same point during the 90-minute White House dinner ABC Action News attended Monday.

Trump pointed out there are active planes in service that have been flown by grandfathers, fathers and now sons.

It's happening at MacDill, where a member of the Brink family has been flying the KC-135 almost continuously since 1964.

In the president's budget, Trump calls for a $54 billion increase in defense spending, which sounds like good news for the defense industry in the Tampa Bay area.

The president told ABC Action News anchor Paul LaGrone at the White House that he wants to renegotiate the government's military contracts, which Trump said in his address to Congress Tuesday.

"We'll be saving billions more I contracts throughout our government," Trump said.

Paul LaGrone took a look at the defense contracts in the Tampa region, and it was quite a range, everything from landscaping and office supplies... to missile defense and ammunition. These are billion dollar contracts, and they last a long time.
