Police: Three Tampa schools taken off lockdown after gun incident at bus stop, four in custody

TAMPA - Three Tampa Schools were placed on modified lockdown Wednesday morning after four suspects drove up in a pickup truck and brandished a gun at children at a bus stop, according to police.

All of the suspects were in custody after a short chase.

Williams Middle School, James Elementary and Gary Adult were the affected schools.

According to reports, the gun incident occurred on 40th Street between Osborne and Hillsborough at Ellicott Street shortly after 7 a.m.

At least three students were at a bus stop waiting for their ride to Armwood High School.  The suspects drove up in a black Ford F-250 and displayed a gun. They drove off and one of the students called 911.

An officer spotted the truck, but before he could turn on his lights, the suspects took off at a high rate of speed and the truck flipped.

One suspect received a head wound when the truck crashed. The were no other reports of injuries.

The schools were removed from lockdown shortly after 8:30 a.m.
