Police say Tampa firefighter choked teen in domestic violence incident

Fire department says suspect will be suspended

TAMPA - A Tampa firefighter grabbed a teenager and threw him against the wall, choking him, Hillsborough Sheriff's officials said.

Julio Moran, who works out of Station One for the Tampa Fire department was charged with child abuse, domestic violence and tampering with a witness.

According to a police report, Moran was in the process of ending a domestic relationship with the victim's mother.

There was a confrontation and the teen tried to call 911. Deputies say Moran attacked the teen to prevent him from calling deputies.

Tampa Fire Rescue spokesman Capt. Bill Wade said Moran was supposed to report to work this morning and did not. Moran will be "Sumarily suspended" until he appears before a disciplinary hearing.
