TAMPA - With Thanksgiving around the corner, a local church is hoping to provide something to local families who may not have the means to purchase it themselves.
A turkey and all the fixings.
"We hope that people in our community know that we care about them, and that we care about them having the opportunity to have a wonderful family gathering, which is what Thanksgiving is all about," said Kate Makely, media coordinator for Miracle Center World Outreach in Tampa.
That's what's prompting Makely's church to give out turkeys on a first-come, first-serve basis on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Steinbrenner Field, 1 Steinbrenner Drive, near the intersection of Dale Mabry and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., for the third year in a row.
While thousands are expected at the event, which runs from noon to 2 p.m., doors open at 10:30 a.m.
Makely's advice for turkey seekers? Get there early, since people who pre-registered will be given turkeys first.
"We want to be a blessing to the community," Makely said, "and let them know people out there care about them."
