TAMPA, Fla. - Lowry Park Zoo's White Elephant Sale of used props, costumes and decorations can include anything from paper mache skulls to cheery Christmas wreaths. Everything at the sale is sold as is.
The items come mostly from the Zoo's annual Wild Wonderland holiday celebration and the Halloween season's ZooBoo.
Some items, like handmade, elaborately costumed dolls, sell for up to $300. But keep your eyes peeled for the less flashy and less expensive items from the zoo's gift shop and catering events. Glass vases will sell for less than $2.
These sales are very popular, so the morning is likely to be hot, crowded and highly competitive. Zoo staff will try to fairly referee disputes between shoppers trying to snap up the same items.
"There's also going to be limits on certain items so people can't just announce that they own six tables worth of merchandise," said Rachel Nelson, the zoo's public relations director.
If you are a zoo member, you can get into the White Elephant Sale an hour early at 8 a.m. Saturday. You can buy a member's pass on the same morning if you like. Otherwise the doors open at 9 a.m.
