A low pressure system north of the Virgin Islands has a good chance of becoming Tropical Storm Cristobal over the weekend, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
Development is likely after the system moves past Hispaniola and toward the southeastern Bahamas.
The chance of the system becoming a tropical depression or storm is 60 percent over the next 48 hours and 80 percent over the next five days.
A hurricane hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate the system later today.
Most computer models show the system eventually turning north, which would put Florida in the clear.
