Flight returns to TIA after landing gear issue

TAMPA - A Delta flight that took off from Tampa for Detroit had to return to TIA Tuesday morning due to a landing gear issue.

Flight # 2192, which departed nat 8:35 a.m., had been in the air for about 30 minutes when the decision was made to turn around, according to a TIA spokesperson.

A landing gear indicator light in the cockpit came on and the decision to return was standard protocol.

The plane stayed in the air until 9:55 to burn off fuel. The landing was normal.  Tampa Fire Rescue was on scene, but left after the  McDonnell Douglas MD-80 landed safely.

The 154 people on board departed safely and arrangements were made to put them on other flights.
