TAMPA - A four-alarm fire at a nearby paper recycling plant caused school officials to evacuate Middleton High School for about one-half hour Wednesday morning.
The evacuation was ordered around 11 a.m.
The fire was at the Rock Tenn Recycling Center located at 5111 North 26th Street, which is just northeast of the school.
Middleton High is located at 4801 North 22nd Street, south of Hillsborough Avenue and east of I-275.
There was no immediate word on what sparked the fire.
A total of 40 units ultimately responded to the scene.
Hot spots were still being doused shortly before 4 p.m.
On Dec. 8, 2013, there was a two-alarm fire at the same plant. Investigators said that fire originated in a pile of recyclables and started as a result of spontaneous combustion.
