Deputies arrested a man they say was driving the wrong way on I-275 in a stolen SUV early Wednesday morning.
Just after 1:30 a.m., deputies spotted a black Chevrolet Tahoe that had been reported stolen near 140th and Nebraska Avenues.
When deputies attempted to stop the SUV, the suspect took off, and entered Interstate 275 at Fletcher Avenue with deputies following.
The man, later identified as Jason Fulford, got off the highway at Fowler Avenue, then re-entered the Interstate traveling the wrong way (southbound in the northbound lane).
By this time, an aviation unit was watching from above, and patrol cars discontinued the pursuit.
Deputies said there were no other vehicles on the highway when Fulford, 28, was traveling the wrong way.
Fulford then exited the Interstate at Busch Blvd., where he struck a vehicle and side-swiped another.
The driver of the first car was not injured, but the air bag deployed and he was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital to be checked out.
The suspect driver got out of the car and attempted to run, but was apprehended a short distance away by deputies and officers with Tampa Police.
Fulford is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle, Burglary of a Vehicle, Grand Theft Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of a Crash with injuries.
