Deputies charge Ricardo Carmenate with First Degree Murder in Tampa man's death

TAMPA - Hillsborough County detectives arrested Ricardo Carmenate on Thursday night for a murder that occurred five days earlier.

On December 21, the Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at approximately 9:40 p.m. a shooting had occurred at 8830 Beacon Lakes Drive in Tampa.

When deputies arrived, they found Jose Javier Roque-Apaulaza dead in a parking lot at the Beacon Isle Apartments. He had been shot multiple times.

Homicide detectives began an extensive investigation that included interviewing multiple witnesses and examining forensic evidence. During their investigation, detectives learned Roque-Apaulaza and Carmenate met in the parking lot to conduct a drug transaction.

Deputies say the 26-year-old Carmenate pulled a gun on Roque-Apaulaza and shot him multiple times.

Around 6:00 p.m. Thursday night, detectives arrested Carmenate at his Tallwood Court home. He was booked into the Orient Road Jail and charged with First Degree Murder with a Firearm and Attempted First Degree Murder with a Firearm.
