TAMPA - Lunchtime on Friday proved to be a very rough go for motorists in I-275 in Tampa heading to or coming from the Howard Frankland Bridge.
The driver of a sand hauler traveling southbound on 275 experienced steering problems. The truck hit a Buick traveling in the inside lane before hitting the center concrete median and taking out two light poles.
The initial impact caused sand to be thrown into the northbound lanes.
The crash, debris and resulting cleanup restricted travel both north and southbound.
The Highway Patrol later announced that traffic on I-275 would be shut down in both directions (around 1:15 p.m.) to remove the second light pole damaged in the crash.
There were two occupants in the Buick. One received minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
