TAMPA - Channelside could soon have a new owner. Court documents show a prospective buyer is going through the negotiations process to buy the property.
Hillsborough County records don't reveal the name of the person or company interested in buying Channelside. In the documents, they're called the "Prospective Purchaser." They have hired a firm to help them negotiate the deal.
Business owners in Channelside say they are eager to see someone buy the plaza and possibly pump new life into the area.
Chelsea Griffin, who manages White House Gear, said, "This is such an amazing area. If somebody can come here and purchase us and and just give us a little bit of love and attention, it will be awesome."
The owner of Precinct Pizza, Rick Drury said business has been good lately with 3,000 to 4,000 customers a week. He believes a new owner could mean even more businesses opening their doors and more people spending money.
"Hopefully, it will come to fruition, said Drury. "We've been hearing this for four years now that people have been interested. So we're not going to hold our breath until it's finished. But, we're certainly hoping another group will finally come in here and take over."
Tampa Bay Lightning Owner Jeff Vinik has expressed interest in buying the area in the past. A spokesperson for Vinik said they have not signed an agreement and would make no further comment.
