TAMPA - A Tampa family plagued by phone calls from one of the largest banks in the world finally gets some pay back.
The Consiglios family won a lawsuit with Bank of America after they say their phone didn’t stop ringing morning noon and night after falling behind on their mortgage.
The family says they received about 700 calls over a four-year period. Furious with the bank, the family took the giant corporation before a judge who ruled in favor of the little guys.
That federal court judge has now ordered Bank of America to pay the family $1 million for the harassment or $1,500 per call.
We’re also learning people are seeing this type of issue all over the country.
An elderly couple in California claims they got 2000 calls from Bank of America.
The bank also rang a family in Arkansas 350 times, and more than 600 times to a family in Indiana.
It’s not the first time Bank of America has come under fire for aggressive phone tactics.
In 2010, the bank was found to be using a Texas collection agency whose associates were recorded using foul language and racist remarks to collect on debts.
The bank halted its relationship with the firm shortly after the recordings went public.
Lawyers for Bank of America are reviewing the judgment and say they have not decided on whether to appeal the ruling.
