Walking to school, 2 teens hit by car in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A girl is in critical condition, and her sister is stable after the pair were hit by a car Tuesday morning while walking to school, according to Tampa Police.

Victoria, 14, and Norma Valasquez-Cabrera, 15, were crossing Hillsborough Avenue near 25th St. around 7:15 a.m. when the driver of the vehicle,17-year-old Deja Johnson, hit them.

They were walking to Middleton High School and Johnson was on her way to Hillsborough High School.

One girl is in critical condition and the other girl is in stable condition. The driver was not injured.

Police said the girls were not in a crosswalk, it was dark and the driver did not see them.  Police said it does not appear the driver is at fault, and will not be charged.
