ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - ABC Action News Chief meteorologist Denis Phillips was able to speak with the National Weather Service on Saturday evening and confirm that a small EF0 tornado did in fact form on Saturday evening around 9:20 and caused damage at the Rand Motel on 34th Street North.
Phillips said that the system moved in very quickly that meteorologists didn't see it on radar until after it hit and re-examined data.
Hotel owner, Rosie Blidar was inside when the storm hit. She said it sounded like a car had crashed into the building and then the ceiling came down. A portion of the roof was torn off the hotel and debris went flying into car windows parked nearby. Firefighters did respond to the scene, and there were no injuries reported
