St. Petersburg's Saturday Morning Market celebrates 10 years

ST. PETERSBURG - The St. Petersburg Saturday Morning Market has become very well known in the Tampa Bay area as the hot weekend destination.

Ten years ago, in November 2002, a small market opened on a short block of 2nd Street in downtown St Petersburg.

Now it boasts 10,000 customers a week, and 200 vendors rotating through 130 spaces.

The market has supported the growth of local small farms, and brings fresh produce grown in a sustainable fashion to market goers.

To celebrate the market's extraordinary impact on the community, the entire month of November is a celebration of its 10-year anniversary.

Each week, there will be additional live entertainment, including swing dancers, living statues, jugglers, balloon artists, and other types of performers.

On November 10, Mayor Bill Foster will be attending the market to make an official proclamation.

The market is held weekly on Saturdays from October through May, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Al Lang Field parking lot, which is located on the corner of 1st Avenue S. and 1st Street.
