St. Petersburg police officer hit by PSTA bus, injuries not fatal

SAINT PETE BEACH, Fla. - A Saint Petersburg police officer was directing traffic Saturday morning when he was hit by a PSTA bus, according to Pinellas County Sheriff deputies.

Officer Michael Weiskopf was directing traffic in the area of 59th Avenue and Gulf Boulevard in St. Pete Beach due to the eastbound lane being closed for a race.

Weiskopf was on his police issued motorcycle helping another vehicle when a PSTA bus hit him. The bus was traveling at slow speed when it struck the officer.

A passenger who was standing on the bus at the time of the crash suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Officer Weiskopf was also transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The bus driver and one other passenger were unharmed.
