St. Petersburg Police identify suspect in woman's murder

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Police have identified who they believe was the gunman who opened fire at a car, hitting a woman who later died.

They are looking for Morris Vernell Hires III, 18.  He was staying at 535 26th Avenue South when a car pulled up with several people inside, including Felicia Vickers, 21.  According to a police statement, they were there to buy drugs.

Someone inside the car began arguing with Hires, who pulled a gun and fired inside the vehicle, hitting Vickers.

She was driven to Bayfront Medical Center and dropped off.  The other people in the car drove off before police arrived. They were later found and questioned.

Detectives believe Hires is on the run and his whereabouts are unknown. He is considered armed and dangerous.

He is described as 5'7", 135 lbs and has a tattoo on his right forearm of the letters MOE surrounded in flames.  He has prior arrests for Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Felony Battery, Grand Theft and Auto Theft.
