St. Petersburg police: Arrests made in robbery, abduction

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A man and woman have been arrested in the April abduction and armed robbery of a St. Petersburg man.

The suspects are identified as Juliann Betancourt, 26, and Jeffrey Santiago, 49.

On April 21, police say, the two  approached a 55-year-old man outside his home on 22nd Avenue North around 9 p.m.  He was mildly acquainted with Betancourt and allowed them into his residence.

Once inside, Satiago pulled a knife and the two forced the victim into his own SUV.  He was forced to ride with them. At one point, Betancourt demanded his ATM card and PIN, according to a police statement.

Betancourt was caught on surveillance camera around 3 a.m. on April 23 withdrawing cash.

The victim was driven back to his home and Santiago took off in the SUV, a 1999 Ford Expedition.  Betancourt left in a black sedan.

The Expedition was found abandoned and burning a short time later.

Detectives caught with Santiago and Betancourt late Wednesday and arrested them in the area of 3700 4th Street North.

Both were charged with armed robbery. Santiago was also charged with arson and possession of a prescription drug.

Additional charges are pending, police say.
