St. Petersburg man arrested after alleged abduction and assault of 16-year-old

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A St. Petersburg man was arrested Thursday morning after police say he abducted and assaulted a 16-year-old girl.

According to spokesman Mike Puetz, Benjamin Mohead, 32, pulled up to the victim in a dark green sedan when her told her to get into his car. When she refused, Mohead pointed a handgun at her and made the request again.

Once the victim was inside the car, she was driven to an area near the Lakewood Estates golf course, where she was sexually assaulted. Mohead also robbed the victim, police said.

The victim was released near the intersection of Desoto Way & Cardinal Ways South when she began to scream. The victim was able to obtain the tag number on Mohead's vehicle before was able to drive off.

Police used the tag information to track Mohead, who was arrested a short time later.

Mohead has an extensive criminal record, including a prior arrest for armed sexual assault. He will be charged with two counts of armed sexual assault, one count of armed kidnapping and one count of armed robbery in this case.
