A 19-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a St. Petersburg veteran has been arrested, according to St. Petersburg Police Department.
Shirune Green is charged with first-degree murder in the May 10 armed carjacking and fatal shooting of Floyd Lassiter.
Lassiter confronted Green and another suspect outside his home on 25th Street South and was shot to death, police said.
"I just said 'Thank you Lord,' because I have been praying for them to catch somebody," said Roy Lassiter, Floyd Lassiter's brother. "I say it's just a matter of time. You can't do stuff and expect to get away with it."
After finding Green, detectives discovered he had an untreated gunshot wound in his upper body that he may have received in his struggle with Lassiter, police said. He will remain under guard at the hospital while he receives treatment.
Detectives found Green about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday after getting a tip that he was hiding in the Pinellas Point Apartment Complex at 2125 62nd Place S. in St. Petersburg.
A woman in apartment no. 19 allowed detectives to search inside, police said. A police dog found Green hiding under a pile of dirty laundry inside a closet.
When he refused to surrender, the dog bit him on the right arm, police said.
Detectives are interviewing the woman in whose apartment Green was found to determine if she helped him hide.
The second suspect in the shooting has not been identified.
