Flood Warning issued October 1 at 10:09AM EDT expiring October 4 at 2:00AM EDT in effect for: Sarasota
Three were arrested early Monday morning after a police pursuit and crash. The suspect driver tried to crash into a police car.
Police said it started around 3:20 a.m. near 18th Avenue S. and 14th street, where they spotted a blue 2014 Volkswagen Jetta that had been reported stolen.
Officers attempted to pull the car over, but instead, the driver drove directly at an officer's cruiser. The officer was able to avoid the crash, and other officers began a pursuit.
The driver, later identified as Darrell Antonio Carter, lost control of the car, and hit a unoccupied parked vehicle in the driveway of 3001 22nd Avenue South.
Carter, 36, and two others, Bryan Michael Vicario and Chad Springer, were taken into custody. Two of them were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not serious.
Vicario, 23, and Springer, 22, are charged with trespassing and possession of marijuana. Carter is charged with Aggravated assault on a LEO, fleeing, auto theft, driving with suspended license, and possession of marjuana.
Carter is set to make his first appearance in front of a Pinellas County judge Monday afternoon at 1:30. Vicario's is scheduled for Tuesday morning at 8:30 and Springer bonded out soon after he was booked into the jail.
The car had been reported stolen from 923 Eden Isle Blvd NE in St. Petersburg on August 5. At the time, the owner reported that a spare set of keys may have been left in the vehicle when it was taken.
