A St. Petersburg woman was critically injured Thursday after crashing head-on into a public bus, police said.
Ruth Hoffelmeyer, 57, crossed into the path of the bus while driving east through a slight bend on Frontage Road, police said.
The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority bus was headed west on 94th Avenue North, police said, approaching the same curve as Hoffelmeyer.
Hoffelmeyer’s 2005 Acura MDX crossed a double yellow line and struck the front of the bus, knocking her vehicle back about 30 feet.
The bus’ occupants only reported receiving minor injuries.
Police say Hoffelmeyer likely suffered an unspecified medical problem that caused her to lose control of her vehicle.
