Police say 'Snoopy' dog may have been intentionally run over

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Witness statements lead St. Petersburg Police to believe that a Jack Russell terrier named 'Snoopy' was intentionally run over Monday by someone driving a blue four-door sedan.

The car was seen driving westbound in the alley behind 5149 3rd Avenue North just minutes before 8:00 a.m.  Moments later, the dog was seen heading the opposite direction with the car behind it at a high rate of speed.

The witness said the car struck the animal and the driver left the area without stopping.

Responding officers found the dog dead.  The owner said Snoopy had gotten out from his fenced in backyard not far from where he was struck.

Surveillance video from a neighbor with a security camera in the alley shows the suspect vehicle heading east.  "Snoopy" is visible on the north side of the alley immediately after being struck.

Police want to speak to the driver, who likely lives nearby or knows someone in the immediate area.

The make and model of the car has not yet been determined but it does appear to be a newer model blue four door sedan.
