Father of five fatally shot at intersection in Bradenton

BRADENTON, Fla. - A father of five children was shot and killed early Sunday morning at the intersection of 27th Street and 13th Avenue East, Bradenton police said.

Around 3:15 a.m. police received a call that someone had been shot near the intersection. Upon arrival officers found 31-year-old Rene Salinas dead from a gunshot wound.

Police say Salinas had been driving and was stopped at the intersection while he was trying to turn north on 27th Street East. At that time, a nearby sedan fired gunshots at Salinas' vehicle, fatally wounding him.

A witness to the shooting described the suspect vehicle as a four-door sedan, light in color. The suspect vehicle is believed to have fled westbound on 13th Avenue East.

According to Captain Warren Merriman, Bradenton Police Department, the shooting was not related to road rage, or was a robbery. He claimed it to be "a senseless random act of violence which took the life of an individual. "

Salinas leaves behind a wife and his children.
