Driver rescued from van wedged between a concrete wall and apartment building in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -

St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue pulled a driver from a van in St. Petersburg Wednesday morning.

A 52-year-old driver had a medical emergency and lost consciousness behind the wheel, according to a release.

The van smashed through a concrete block wall, flipped on its side and hit an apartment building at 5743 Calais Lane North.  When it came to a stop, the van was wedged between the wall and the apartment building.

Rescue teams had to cut the roof of the van off to gain access to the driver.  He was transported to Bayfront Medical Center.

The crash caused heavy damage to two units at Calasis Apartments.  One person was inside one of the apartments, but was not injured.
