Contractor Doug King spends his day remodeling homes, but he’s spending his nights at Pinellas County school’s trying to recruit new talent.

“We have a shortage of good people to work in the construction and manufacturing fields,”said King.

King said millions of new jobs in the construction and manufacturing fields will be created in Florida over the next three years and they need workers.

“We are dying for workers and we will pay good money, some of these workers will earn enough to buy a house within five years of starting,” said King.

He’s speaking to parents at Boga Ciega High School this week about the industry. He’s hoping to target students like junior Lontae Parker.

“I really like building things and working with my hands,” said Parker.

Parker said he’s leaning toward going into the construction industry, because he knows there will be work available for him when he graduates.

"They are looking for people to do these jobs now, cause people aren’t looking to do these jobs anymore,” said Parker.
