As family waits for a new heart, transplant donations are stolen

Donations stolen for baby needing new heart

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Inside a room at All Children's Hospital a baby girl named Jaelyn is smiling brightly despite a dim diagnosis.

"She is so sick and she acts like there is nothing absolutely wrong with her," said her mom Brooke Anderson.

Doctors found Brooke and Joshua Anderson's 9-month-old daughter had Myocarditis. It is a virus which caused her heart to expand. For four months she has been waiting on a heart transplant.

"Having to go to work every day and knowing she is in the hospital and then coming here every night is pretty rough," said her dad Joshua Anderson.

Medical bills and other expenses drained the young parents finances. Jaelyn's grandpa works for Jet Blue and when his company found out about Jaelyn's condition, they went to work raising money for his granddaughter.

"They raised about 10,000 dollars and 3,000 of it was coming from Orlando on Valentine's day," said Joshua Anderson.

But, police said when they stopped for a bite to eat in Orlando someone stole their luggage and the money.

"We were in shock. We were just like who could do that?" said Brooke Anderson.

The Anderson said that money would have been a huge benefit.

Brooke quit her job so her daughter would not be alone.

"It is a meal for us to split if we had to, or to pay a medicine off for her when she gets out of the hospital or a co-pay here. It goes pretty far," Brooke Anderson said.

The Anderson's have a Facebook page set up, "A New Heart for Jaelyn," where others can donate to help her family. For now their daughter's smile will continue to carry them through this hard time.

"As long as she keeps smiling we are good," said Joshua Anderson.
