ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Are you ready for some high intensity, high stepping and show stopping entertainment? Then look no further than the 28th annual Drum Major for Justice Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade in downtown St. Petersburg.
The parade starts at 11a.m. at the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. St. and Third Avenue.South. It will head north to Central Ave., east along Central to Bayshore Drive and north to Fifth Ave. NE, and ended in Vinoy and North Shore Parks.
St. Petersburg Police encourage motorists to pre-plan their travel routes and to use streets west of 16th St. After 10:30 a.m., drivers wanting to cross First Ave. N., Central Ave. or First Ave. S., are advised to use 28th St., I-275, or streets further west.
Special guests of this year's parade include, but are not limited to Dr. Bobby Doctor who is the Former National Director of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights
, Tracy Martin and Sabrina Fulton who are the parents of Trayvon Martin. Martin was the 17-year-old gunned down in a Sanford, FL neighborhood in February of 2012 by a volunteer neighborhood watchman. The neighborhood watchman, George Zimmerman, says the shooting was self defense. Martin's parents have launched the national movement to get rid of what they call injustice in the Florida Stand Your Ground Law and in every state.
The city of Tampa is also putting on its 24th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade starting at noon on Monday. The parade will head through east Tampa on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, starting at 15th street. For more information on this parade, visit the following site:
