A 12-year-old boy was arrested on Tuesday in St. Petersburg for reportedly looting a local elementary school while the school was closed due to Hurricane Irma.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, officers identified the boy as a suspect in a burglary at Melrose Elementary School between September 6 and 14.  Surveillance video showed the suspect inside the school while it was not open several times.

The crime happened during the time the school was closed for Hurricane Irma, according to St. Pete PD.

The boy is now facing a felony commercial burglary charge after a laptop and fire extinguisher were taken. His name has not been released.
