11 year old killed after not looking both ways before crossing street

SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. - An 11 year old girl passed away overnight after being hit by a car late Friday.

Saint Petersburg police say Sonia Savage, 11, was riding her scooter down 58th Avenue Northwest with a friend just after 6 p.m.

The two children started to cross 1st Street North, but Savage only looked  to the south of the street before she left the sidewalk.

Police say Savage didn't see the F-150 that was coming up 1st Street and collided with the passenger side of the truck and continued to be run over by the back wheels.

Savage was rushed to Bayfront Medical center with life-threatening injuries. She was later taken to All Children's Hospital where she was listed in critical condition.

The young girl passed just before midnight, Friday.

She had just celebrated her 11th birthday just three days prior.

No charges have been filed and police believe alcohol was not a factor.
