Boil water alert for St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island

ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. - A precautionary boil water order has been issued for St. Pete Beach and Treasure Island between 116th Avenue and 45th Avenue, including the Isle of Capri neighborhood.

The order was issued following an inadvertent drop in water pressure during an upgrade at a nearby pumping station.

Nearly normal pressure has been restored, but Pinellas County issued the order as a precaution.  The order will remain in effect for a minimum of 48 hours while water tests are conducted.

When service is restored, residents are advised to run cold water through all plumbing fixtures until the water runs clear.

The immediate concern is over microbes.  If present in the water, diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches and other symptoms could occur. '

This may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems.

Customers will be notified when the all-clear is issued.
