INDIAN ROCKS BEACH, Fla. - Four people were stabbed at an Indian Rocks Beach bar after a patron who was denied anymore alcohol returned to the establishment with a knife Sunday, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
Officials responded to the disturbance at the Red Lion Pub, located at 1507 Gulf Boulevard in Indian Rocks Beach, after receiving a call at 11.11 p.m.
When deputies arrived, they found three victims with stab wounds, and 50-year-old James Klingbeil, the suspected stabber, being held down by other patrons at the bar.
Deputies said Klingbeil had been at the pub for a drink earlier that evening.
The bartender, 32-year-old Rebecca Shaeffer, refused to sell him alcohol because he was already highly intoxicated.
The two got in a verbal argument before Klingbeil left.
The suspect then reportedly walked to USA Grocers, at 1211 Gulf Boulevard, and bought a filet knife.
He then returned to the bar and got into another argument with Shaeffer. At some point, he pulled out the knife and started attacking the bartender.
Nicholaus Rees, 35, Michael Arnold,26 and Gordon Rees, 44, jumped in to help Schaeffer and were injured in the process.
Rees suffered a laceration to his right forearm, Arnold suffered a laceration to his hand and Rees was punched in the face by the suspect.
The patrons eventually were able to take the suspect to the ground and take the knife away.
The bartender was flown to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. She was listed in stable condition Monday morning, and is expected to be okay. Arnold was also transported for non-life threatening injuries.
Rees was taken to Largo Medical Center for treatment of his non-life threatening injuries.
Klingbeil was arrested for attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of battery.
He was taken to Pinellas County jail. He will make a first appearance in court today at 1:30 p.m. The investigation is ongoing.
