Police say ex-employee stole cash register from Edible Arrangements in Pinellas Park

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - A former employee of Edible Arrangements in Pinellas Park is accused of stealing a cash register and running through the mall early Thursday evening.

Pinellas Park Police officers said Jett Jones, 29, entered the business at The Shops At Park Place during business hours through a rear door.  They believe he hid on top of a freezer for two hours or more, waiting for the store to close.

He then climbed from his hiding place and cut the power cord to the cash register when he was interrupted by a store employee returning from a late delivery.  The employee confronted Jones and told him to leave.

Jones picked up the register and ran out the front door.  Store employees and mall patrons gave chase.

Police said he brandished a knife and pointed it one of the mall patrons in a threatening manner. Fearing for his safety, the pursuer backed away from the suspect.

A police K9 team found Jones in the rear of a home on 67th Avenue N. around 7:30 p.m. and apprehended him.  Jones suffered two puncture wounds when the K9 captured him.

He had a folding knife in his possession, and a pair of latex gloves were found during the pursuit.

Jones used to work for Edible Arrangements, but separated from the company earlier this year.

He was booked in on charges of armed robbery and armed burglary.
