Local shop provides 'Dancing with the Stars' costumes

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - Behind an unassuming storefront in Pinellas Park is a wonderland of bling, lace, fringe and frills.

ABC Action News anchor Ashley Glass recently discovered Designs to Shine as she went in search of the perfect costume for Dancing with the Stars Tampa Bay, a charity event set for October 13.

"There is so much energy in here," said owner Maria McGill. She started the ballroom costume shop thirteen years ago in her mother's home in Pinellas Park. "It's kind of spread, one dress at a time," McGill said.

Bay area dress-makers and designers hand-make thousands of costumes each year for dancers all over the world and hit television shows like ABC's 'Dancing with the Stars.'

The couture costumes and dresses start at $4,500. Still, McGill says her profits are as bright and shiny as her product. "That is why I think we are alive, because we are so unique."

Each year, Designs to Shine allows competitors in Tampa Bay's Dancing with the Stars to wear their beautiful creations for the night-of performance.
