Car vs pedestrian: Indiana man in serious condition after crash in North Redington Beach

REDINGTON BEACH, Fla. - A 30-year-old man from Indiana suffered serious head injuries after he was hit Sunday night while trying to cross a road in North Redington Beach.

Stanley Klimek, 69, of St. Petersburg was driving his 2007 Toyota Prius northbound on Gulf Boulevard when he struck Jed Gettinger, 30, walking across the road at a crosswalk.

Gettinger, visiting from Indiana, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Deputies said he sustained serious injuries to his head.

Witnesses told deputies that the pedestrian signal was flashing at the time of the crash.

At this time, neither speed nor impairment appear to be a factor.

The investigation continues.

It's the second pedestrian crash on Pinellas beaches in two days (see ).
