Man rescued from dump truck crashed in Alafia River

GIBSONTON, Fla. - Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews saved a man trapped inside a dump truck after it went into the Alafia River off of U.S. 41 in Gibsonton on Tuesday.

Crews responded around 10:00 a.m., after 911 calls came in reporting that a dump truck had lost control and went into the water off US Hwy 41 just south of Riverview Drive. 

They found that a man was trapped inside the dump truck in the river, and the water level was up to his neck. 

Special Operations units were called to the scene, including Heavy Rescue, a marine unit and additional HCFR crews.

It took the crews about 20 minutes to rescue the patient, keeping him above the water level at all times.
 
The man was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. There were no reports of injuries to other civilians or fire rescue personnel.
