A video of a man hitching a ride on a whale shark off the coast of Venice has raised many reactions ranging from amazement to anger online.
James Robert Bostwick uploaded the 32 second video of himself riding on a whale shark's dorsal fin via Facebook.
The video shows Bostwick swimming toward the whale shark, taking hold of its dorsal fin and being pulled along the water's surface for a few seconds.
Despite being the world's largest species of fish, whale sharks are gentle filter feeders.
Gary Morse, spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission told the Sarasota Herald Tribune that the act isn't illegal, but discourages interaction of that type with wildlife.
