Manatee deputies forced to take cover after suspect opens fire

BRADENTON, Fla. - UPDATE: Darlene Miller was arrested after opening fire on deputies early Sunday morning.

Deputies attempted to stop Darlene Miller, 24, on Cortez Road in Bradenton for a traffic violation. When deputies went to check her driver's license, Miller sped off.

She was seen turning onto 34th Street West before crashing into a concrete wall. Deputies were not chasing her at the time she crashed.

After the crash deputies rushed to check on Miller.. As they ordered her to move away from the car, deputies say Miller pulled a gun and started to shoot at the deputies.

They were able to take cover behind their patrol cars without suffering any injuries.

Miller fired two more rounds at the deputies before she fled the scene on foot.

This afternoon deputies located and arrested Miller at the 2800 block of 48th Avenue Drive West.
