Southbound I-75 closed in North Port after dump truck crashed into bridge
All southbound lanes of Interstate 75 are closed between the River Road exit (mile marker 191) and Sumter Road exit (mm 182) after a dump truck crashed into the overpass at Ponce Deleon Blvd.
The dump truck was heading south on I-75 and struck the north side of the overpass at mile marker 184 around 2:30 Wednesday morning.
All southbound traffic must exit the interstate at the River Road Exit and should proceed south to US 41. Once on US 41, traffic may travel east to either Sumter Road or Toledo Blade Blvd. Traffic will be allowed to travel north to the interstate and traffic may resume traveling south to their final destination.
The Florida Department of Transportation is sending bridge inspectors to the scene to assess the damage to the bridge. The southbound lanes will remain closed until the bridge has been inspected and been determined safe for vehicular traffic.
Northbound lanes remain open.
