Southbound I-75 back open after lane closures in Sarasota County due to falling concrete and holes

SARASOTA, Fla. - Southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near mile marker 213 opened up for traffic Tuesday afternoon.

Falling chunks of concrete from an I-75 overpass forced the closure of southbound I-75 as well as east and westbound University Parkway around noontime Monday in Sarasota County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Traffic on both the Interstate and University was at a near standstill, according to the FHP.

University Parkway has since been reopened, and northbound lanes of I-75 are clear.

Traffic from southbound I-75 had to be detoured at mile marker 217.
