SARASOTA, Fla. - The search for 19-year-old man swept away from Sarasota's Lido Key ended when his body was found Sunday morning.
The search was suspended Saturday night and resumed at first light Sunday morning.
According to Sarasota County Fire-Rescue spokesperson Susan Pearson, the victim was swimming for about 20 minutes Saturday when friends looked over and saw him flailing his arms roughly 100 yards away around 6:50 p.m.
He disappeared near South Lido County Park. Pearson said the area is notorious for rip currents.
A Sarasota County Sheriff's Office air and marine unit, a lifeguard jet ski, an Florida Fish and Wildlife unit and a U.S. Coast Guard rescue boat searched the area for Rieser on Saturday evening, until operations were suspended.
The swimmer has not been identified, pending notification of his family.
