Deputies with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested a Texas woman on multiple charges including forgery and fraud after she used a $1,100 fake check at Costco.
Employees at the store called deputies to investigate the purchase of a laptop computer and tablet when the suspect presented a check and an Arkansas driver's license that appeared to belong to someone else.
Eventually deputies identified the suspect as Chandrika Berry, 25, and found two other checkbooks in someone else's name with two different sets of routing numbers and accounts.
Deputies also learned Berry had made three purchases in the past week in Clearwater and Brandon, as well as Rockwall, Texas.
Berry is charged with attempted grand theft, uttering a forged check, forgery, giving a false name to law enforcement and four counts of criminal use of personal identification.
